Hardwood flooring was a highly prized flooring in American Colonial times before the advent of modern sanding equipment. Hardwood flooring Installers in those days needed to have some way to keep splinters from finding the feet of its original users. The only means to smooth the wood’s surface was by means of a method called “hand scraping”. This was accomplished by set blades drawn across the surface of the hardwood flooring planks, leaving the surface relatively smooth. Most of todays scraped flooring is an artificial attempt to duplicate a bygone era’s look and feel. It is normally accomplished by pre-programmed “scraping machines” which repeat the same scraping pattern ad nauseum. A machine can’t touch and feel the grain of the wood, or express a personal artistic sense of what each planks needs to be beautiful. Our Artisans have decades of hands-on experience creating and reproducing our branded hand scraping styles one by one with their own hands.
